The sole purpose of a security guard is to protect your business premises from crime. However, because we're often contracted to be on-site throughout the night, we're the eyes and ears of your business when your day-to-day employees are unavailable Whilst crime prevention will always be our main focus, it's our duty to report anything that's out of the ordinary and act accordingly.

An excellent example of this is with Chris, a Carter Security Solutions security guard contracted to long-term client, Amey. Amey is a leading infrastructure services and engineering company, and we work with them to keep their sites secure throughout the night. In their own words, '[Amey] are trusted partners of Government -- both national and local -- managing assets and complex projects that are vital to the sustainable growth of the country.' We take their security and the safety of their assets extremely seriously, as demonstrated by Chris' swift and professional response to an incident during his shift at the start of April this year.

Starting his shift at 8pm, Chris completed his first patrol of the site. Patrols took place every two hours, and just after the fifth patrol, at 5:05am, Chris noticed a large amount of smoke coming from one of the buildings on site. After safely conducting his own investigation and seeing that the fire was intensifying, he called for the Fire Brigade.

Just 25 minutes after first detecting the blaze, firefighters were on-site. As a result of his commendable actions and outstanding work of identifying and dealing with a site fire, the Operations Manager at Amey would like to nominate Chris to receive an Amey Star Award voucher at a value of £25. Without his calm and professional management of the situation, the damages of the fire could easily have become significant.

Normally, an award such as this is reserved for Amey employees only, but in response to Chris's actions on the night, Amey is very much looking forward to Chris receiving the voucher of his choosing.

Crisis management is a key part of all security officer training at Carter Security Solutions, and Chris demonstrated this brilliantly with his management of the fire at Amey's site. We're thrilled his work has been recognised, and thank him for his exceptional work.
