Security guards are now a regular sight on the high street, in place to support both social distancing for the general public, as well as supporting staff more than ever in the retail and hospitality sector. These responsibilities are in place to keep everyone safe, and being on the front line means security officers are earning respect more so than ever before.

Security on the front line

Security officers -- whether that's door supervisors, manned guarding or mobile patrols -- have always been in place to keep people safe and prevent crime. In recent months, this has meant working as key workers throughout the coronavirus pandemic to support key industries and help others to reopen. Carter Solutions and Services Ltd has remained on the front line and will continue to do so, providing excellent security across the UK.

Increased responsibilities and training to keep everyone safe

Government guidelines currently include social distancing and limited capacity in indoor spaces. This has meant increased responsibilities for security officers, which unfortunately makes them vulnerable to abuse from those less willing to comply. Ensuring these measures are adhered to is hugely important or everyone's safety, but it doesn't mean that security guards need not be concerned with their roles and responsibilities pre-COVID-19. It is still just as important to protect businesses from crime, whether that's antisocial behaviour, shoplifting, theft and vandalism. This increase in responsibilities has also meant an increase in training.

We have a designated training facility at our head office in Wisbech and take training incredibly seriously. Our key message has always been to keep your business safe, but perhaps that needs to be updated to keep both your business, customers and employees safe.
