We've only just bid farewell to Storm Ciara, and Storm Dennis is hot on her heels. For the majority of the UK, this means hunkering down inside, staying warm and making sure heating is turned up! What is means for us is to be prepared, both physically and mentally, and being aware of the challenges to security that stormy weather could bring.

When it comes to our security officers, we ensure that:

1.They are equipped with appropriate clothing

This might sound obvious, but it's arguably the most important thing we need to factor in. It's vitally important that as a company we provide all of our staff with the right equipment that enables them to stay warm. Hats, scarves, gloves and thick socks will always be encouraged, and our jackets are waterproof and well insulated too.

At the end of the day, our security officers are what keeps you safe. Whilst your priority is protecting your assets through contracting a quality security provider, our priority is keeping the men and women in our care safe throughout the storm.

2.They have breaks throughout their shift

This is a balancing act, and we would never encourage our security officers to take more breaks than necessary, their priority will always be to protect your business premises. However, we also need to consider the welfare of our staff, and harsh stormy conditions call for occasional breaks to allow our men and women to quickly warm-up before getting back out on the ground again.

3.Staying in touch, whatever the weather

Safety will always be at the top of our list -- that means keeping your business safe and secure and keeping our security guards safe too. Constant communication is the best way of keeping our remote staff safe, allowing them to report any change in circumstance to us directly, whenever they're on shift. One way we do this is through Deputy, our security guard attendance and welfare app, which enables us to remotely monitor our staff.

How can the storm affect the safety of your business?

The main factor to consider in any storm is the wind. Strong wind can easily compromise fencing and can even cause damage to doorways, trees and windows. All of this could affect your business premises, making it an easier target for hopeful trespassers.

Our security guards know to be extra vigilant during storms. Not only because of the damage can they cause, but also because they are loud! This can easily mask someone breaking and entering. Our mobile patrols are well aware of this added security threat, and take extra measures to be aware of increased threats.

For more information on how we can work with you to provide a quality service at your business, please don't hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team. We look forward to hearing from you.
