Either this week or next week, schools will be breaking up for Christmas and New Year celebrations. Whilst for many this will a brilliant time off to spend time with friends and family, for us it means keeping your school, college or university safe and secure during the seasonal festivities.

Technology plays a huge role in education today, with smart boards, computers, laptops, ipads and projectors featuring in classrooms across the country. There's no doubt that this enhances the education of future generations, but it also makes schools a prime target for crime, especially outside of term time.

The last thing you want to disturb your Christmas break is a phone call from the police telling you about a break-in and stolen equipment and damages. As we say so often in our security blogs, a prevention is so much better than handling the consequences that come with not investing in quality security.

What are the challenges of patrolling school grounds?

  1. Multiple sports spaces such as football pitches and netball courts
  2. Outdoor areas including playgrounds
  3. Additional outbuildings buildings and standalone classrooms
  4. Extra storage sites for additional sport equipment

Additional outdoor space brings many challenges, and something only security guards patrolling the area will be able to handle. Although CCTV enables remote monitoring, the presence of trusted and trained officers act as a brilliant deterrent to criminals. Closing the curtains and locking windows is no longer enough to protect your premises from opportunists determined to gain entry.

Schools have multiple entrances and exits

One of the main difficulties in keeping schools safe and secure is that they have multiple entrances and exits, at the front, side and back of the building. They are also often situated in built-up areas with high occupancy -- great for families to be able to get to school easily, not so great when it comes to being able to keep the site secure from trespassers. Our security teams are highly trained to act promptly and professionally, and they're experienced with providing quality security to the education sector.

Reassure safeguarding concerns with trained security professionals

Parents are naturally concerned about their children, and rightly so! The news is full of safeguarding issues and horror stories on when things go terribly wrong. Our security officers take the protection of schools, colleges and universities extremely seriously. This can be anything from reporting broken glass or broken entrance-ways and gates to making sure that no one without permission is allowed on site.

All educators have the responsibility to keep the young people in their care safe, and we take this responsibility hugely seriously.
