A career in security isn’t easy, it’s a challenging role and arguable it’s a lifestyle choice. Shift patterns tend to be 4 days on, 4 days off and there’s often the need for night shifts too. However, there’s a lot of benefits that make a career in security a good choice if you want to put a focus on your physical and mental wellbeing.

1. Being a security officer is an active career

A role in security is a great career choice for someone wanting to be active. It’s a far cry away from a typical office role, as a security officer is up on his or her feet throughout their shift, whether that's as a door supervisor, mobile patrol or manned guarding position. For some of our larger clients, this might mean patrolling the premises for the majority of the shift, with regular breaks, of course!

2. It’s a challenging role, but a rewarding one too!

The first step in a career in security is holding a valid SIA license, we ask that this is valid ahead of applying for a role with us. We also continue to invest in our security teams with quality training throughout their career. Training includes de-escalation and conflict management, as well as developing skills you might otherwise not have needed in other jobs in the past. It's a challenge, but knowing you're making a difference to not only your clients but the wider community, makes it an incredibly rewarding career choice.

If you want a challenge, and having an active mind is a benefit to your mental health, then a security officer position could be a really great fit for you. It can be an incredibly sociable role for the extroverts amongst us, but a nighttime shift could suit an introvert more! There’s so much scope for tailoring the right role to the right individual, and as a national organisation we have plenty of opportunity.

3. A fair salary and career progression

Finally, there's your salary. We never subcontract, believing that it will affect the quality of the security we provide, potentially affecting the reputation we've worked hard to build and maintain. We, therefore, pay our security officers above minimum wage, rewarding them for their dedication. We also encourage our security officers to reach their full potential, offering career progression wherever necessary.

So, if you're looking to further your career within the security industry, please check the careers section on our website or email us an up to date copy of your C.V. We never subcontract our staff, we invest in their training and we work hard to support our staff. If you could picture yourself as working for one of the leading security companies in the UK, please get in touch. We look forward to meeting you!
