Security officers have a difficult job to do, there's no doubt about that. It's skilled work, sometimes with challenging situations to face and often throughout anti-social hours. It certainly isn't for the faint-hearted! But, with that all said and done, it's an incredibly rewarding role, and we've highlighted three key reasons why you should consider a role as a security officer.

1. No day is ever the same

Many of our security officers work with the same clients for long periods of time and build strong relationships with them, but that isn't always the case. Whilst this can easily become comfortable and rewarding in its own way, you might be asked to move to a different client with a different set of needs. It might be that you're asked to cover sickness or annual leave at a different location, and this means a varied workload meaning you never get bored!

Even if you are at the same premises, no day will ever be the same. You'll be faced with different challenges as the seasons change, and face different people day in, day out. One day might be slower-paced and a little predictable, whereas the next might require you to utilise your de-escalation training and even contact the local authorities for back up and support. The bottom line is, no day is ever the same!

2. Challenge yourself

We require all of our security officers to hold a valid SIA licence before applying for a role with us, this sets the standard and shows that you're serious working in the security industry. From there we invest in our staff, and this is why we never subcontract. It means we can have an elite security force, where they have the option of additional training, from basic first aid to specialising in a particular field. We work with all types of security contracts, from mobile patrols to manned guarding, to door supervisors and cover a range of events and industries, whether that's within the educational sector, corporate security, industrial sites or casinos.

This means, as an individual, you'll get to challenge yourself, learn from those around you and progress in your career.

3. Know that you're making a difference

The core of what we do is keeping people safe. Yes, we protect buildings too, but what if there was someone working late inside that is then faced with an intruder? It could easily become a volatile situation and isn't worth thinking about. As door supervisors and event security, it's much more obvious that we're aiming to 'keep the peace' so to speak, but that's the case in every single aspect of security. We've said it before, and we'll say it again, security officers are a great deterrent to crime, and if just your presence can prevent crime, that must mean you're making a huge difference!
