It's well and truly winter, and that means darker and colder nights! What's particularly alarming is the spike seen in burglaries during the winter months. Burglars will use the cover of darkness as an opportunity, so if you don't already have a security presence at your business, you could unwittingly become an easy target.

However, there are a number of things you can do during the winter months to reduce the risk of crime in your business.

1.Install external lights

Lights can be fitted to the entrances and exits of your building that are either on a timer, or even lights with a motion sensor. Lights remove the cover of darkness, and they'll also help your staff to feel more secure when leaving the office at the end of the day. If you're unsure which lights to go for, floodlights provide the best deterrent for burglars.

2.Install CCTV

If you don't already have CCTV, then now is the time to seriously consider installing it. CCTV is a great way to deter criminals, and it enables you to capture evidence should someone attempt to break in. We offer a brilliant CCTV service, where a trained member of our team can monitor your CCTV 24/7 and report any incidents should something arise.

3.Double check you have locked all windows and doors

Taking a moment to double check that windows and doors are locked, and alarms are set, might seem self-explanatory, but with the run-up to Christmas, everyone is always keen to get home! It's surprising just how easily distracted you can be leaving the office, especially on a Friday evening when the lure of the weekend makes it that much more appealing to leave the office quickly.

4.Prune shrubs and bushes

Keeping entrances and exits clear from overgrown shrubs will make it much more difficult to burglars to hide. It will also make your CCTV much more effective as you'll have much better visibility. Keeping clutter to a minimum outside your building will, therefore, make your premises a much less likely target.

5.Invest in a security company you can trust

Finally, there's the option to invest in a security company that can provide a bespoke contract that works for your business. Having manned guarding and mobile patrols with trained security officers not only acts as a brilliant deterrent to crime, but it also put your mind at rest knowing that the safety of your business has been left in the capable hands of professionals.

Our security officers are highly skilled individuals, they are all SIA licenced and we never subcontract. We hope this demonstrates just how seriously we take being responsible for the security of our clients.
