Customer service and manned guarding

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, we never subcontract our security guards and every security officer with Carter Solutions and Services Limited has a valid SIA license. This is so we can invest in our staff, know that we can trust them with our clients and it also ensures that we can understand individual strengths and work on improving any weaknesses within our team. We understand this is a more expensive route than subcontracting security staff, but it means we can continue to maintain the high levels of quality security that we are known for.

It goes much deeper than training though. Working in the security sector means working directly with clients and the general public – it’s a customer facing role. This means there are 4 key sectors that require attention: communication, appearance, knowledge and confidence.

Communication

From diffusing a potential volatile argument to instructing event goers where the closest exist is, our security officers have to demonstrate exceptional communication skills in order to be successful in their role. Communication also plays a huge part in the reports our security officers complete at the end of every shift, something we take incredibly seriously.

Appearance

All of our security officers have a uniform. Whilst it’s important to set the right impression with an appropriate uniform, it’s also important to have the correct equipment. This includes body cameras, boots and waterproof clothing – for those that work outside! It also means that our security officers are easily recognisable. This allows members of the public, event attendees, officer workers – anyone – to approach one of our security officers and ask for help or report an incident. It also means that potential thieves recognise there’s a security presence on site, making something as simple as a uniform and excellent deterrent to crime.

Knowledge

Having the right knowledge is more than just adequate training and holding an SIA license. It’s knowing how to operate within the confines of the law. It’s understanding the needs of the client and it's being an expert in their field. We have nearly 30 years of experience in the security industry – that equates to a lot of knowledge!

Confidence

When we talk about confidence, we mean being confident in what the role of a security officer entails. We mean being confident that we can provide an exceptional security service and confidence that we can maintain our exceptional reputation. Confidence is an essential part of any job, and security officers are no exception.

What modules does a SIA license cover

We never subcontract our staff, as we believe we’d lose the close relationship we have with the people in our team. We therefore take hiring new security officers extremely seriously, as the nature of the role requires remote working. This means we are putting our trust into our security guards to represent Carter Solutions and Services and maintain our exceptional reputation.

One thing we require upon application is a valid SIA license as this demonstrates a strong basic knowledge of what is expected. The qualification is the first step in a career in security and covers a vast array of modules, summarised below

    Summer Security at School

Most schools have or are about to finish for the summer. Whilst we have no doubt you’ll be excited about 6 weeks of freedom, the summer break leaves your school, college or university vulnerable. Publishing the last day of term online is something all students and parents expect, after all, it’s your duty to let everyone know term times. But, what you’re also inadvertently doing is advertising to criminals that the building, or buildings, will be empty for a prolonged period of time. This makes it an easy target.

    Security guards in the news

This week it’s been upsetting to see not one, not two, but three accounts of security officers being attacked during their shifts. Unfortunately, facing abuse is a known risk of the job, but that doesn’t excuse aggressive behaviour towards security guards, and it’s always something taken very seriously. In the below examples reported in the news this week, most attacks were a result of the perpetrator trying to steal, and the security officer on duty simply doing their role. Shoplifting is clearly against the law, and getting caught in the act was enough to drive these criminals to violence.

    Quality security, rain or shine!

What a wet and rainy start to the summer it’s been! The miserable weather can make it difficult to build up the courage to go outside, but for our security officers, there’s no weather bad enough that means we can’t give 110% on every shift.

When the weather is gloomy, there’s a number of steps we take to ensure that the quality of the security service we provide isn’t compromised. The security equipment we provide to our security officers, the methodical approach we adopt, and our dedication to ongoing excellent training make the weather a non-significant factor in our day to day operations.
