Whether you celebrate Easter from a religious perspective, or you just enjoy the two bank holidays that come with it, you might be surprised to hear that crime rates will spike during this time. For most of us, Easter is a time to sit back, relax and enjoy a four-day weekend, whilst no doubt having a little too much Easter egg chocolate than what we’ll actually admit!

However, as with any bank holiday, crime rates will be expected to rise. Why? Because fewer people are at work, meaning more time for criminals to take advantage of office blocks, warehouses, and construction sites (for example) being emptier for longer.

Luckily, there are steps you can take to reduce the risk of crime, whether that doing a full risk assessment on the security you currently have in place, or putting in additional measures to protect your business assets more effectively. We’ve listed a few ways you can boost the security of your business, allowing you to enjoy some much-needed time off with friends and family.

  1. Check your perimeters

With winter behind us and spring firmly within grasp, now is the time to assess any damage that’s been caused to your perimeters over winter. It might be that fencing has become rotten and waterlogged, needing urgent replacement, or perhaps high winds have caused havoc with high fencing. Take a walk around your plot and make note of any repairs.

  1. Cut back hedging and chop down low branches

Low-hanging branches and tall bushy hedgerows can make for easy access to criminals looking to gain access to your business property. Partner that with windows on the first floor being left open and you have a recipe for disaster. If gardening isn’t your thing, then contractors can make easy work of cutting back overgrown greenery, making your business looks better to prospective clients, and more importantly, reducing the risk of criminals using vegetation as ladders to gain access.

  1. Clean and check your CCTV

Wet and windy weather can easily smear and smudge your CCTV cameras. Check them all over for damage and give the lenses a good clean to ensure you have maximum visibility.

  1. Invest in Manned Guarding and/or Mobile Patrols

Without any doubt, having trained SIA licensed security officers on site is the most proactive way to deter criminals and protect your business assets from crime. We work hard to create a tailor-made contract for all new clients, taking note of their budgetary requirements as well as exceeding their security needs.
