Uniformed security officers provide an excellent deterrent to crime, but there are a few key benefits that might make you consider undercover security as well, especially if you're concerned about social distancing guidelines being adhered to.

1. They are excellent at loss prevention

With facemasks now compulsory in shops across the UK, CCTV and identifying shoplifting individuals retrospectively is going to be a challenge for those in the retail sector. Loss prevention is particularly important in the retail industry -- especially as the industry is struggling right now, and undercover, ununiformed security personnel are a great way to support this. Whilst undercover security officers don't have the power to arrest individuals, they can detain and question them until the local authorities arrive. They will also be fitted with body cameras so there is no doubt when it comes to a conviction -- regardless of whether that individual is wearing a facemask or not!

2. They are brilliant for internal investigations

Unfortunately, it's incredibly common for crimes to occur within an organisation, or perhaps, for staff to not be as concerned with social distancing measures as you'd like them to be. Staff will be aware of the rota of security officers, and they will be aware when they're taking their breaks. Unfortunately, this could allow staff to commit a crime or perform poorly, knowing that they are extremely unlikely to be 'caught in the act'. If, however, you invest in undercover security, you'll be much more likely to identify which members of staff are not to be trusted.

3. They are much more discrete

When we use discrete in this context we're talking above and beyond not wearing a uniform. Going undercover requires discretion in terms of behaviour too. Therefore, all of our undercover security officers have extensive training, making it much more likely for them to spot individuals committing crimes, and for them to spring into action without causing alarm. It's a delicate balance of knowing exactly what to look for, being in the right place at the right time and reading situations perfectly, and as such we're incredibly proud of the work our undercover security officers do!
