A busy weekend ahead for our door supervisors…

For many, this weekend marks a four-day weekend to enjoy with friends and family. You might choose to relax, you might choose to host at home or you might choose to make the most of potentially four glorious evenings without needing to get up and go to work the next day. This means pubs, clubs, and licensed gaming venues are due to be particularly busy over the coming days – and my default that makes our Carter Security Door Supervisors busy too!

What does a door supervisor do?

Door supervisors, commonly referred to as ‘bouncers’, are the security personnel found at the entrance and exit of public venues. It’s their responsibility to provide security right at the very door. They will need to check those wanting to come in are above the legal drinking age and door supervisors can refuse entry to intoxicated individuals. They will also step in at any point throughout the evening to remove anyone engaging in antisocial behaviour and they are highly trained in de-escalation techniques. This allows them to quickly dissipate aggressive behaviour, keeping everyone safe whilst they’re on shift.

Have you heard of the Ask for Angela initiative?

There is one more key responsibility that door supervisors are able to support with, and that’s the Ask for Angela campaign. Ask for Angela is the name of a campaign that started in England in 2016. It is used by bars and other venues to keep people safe from sexual assault by using a codeword ‘ Angela’ to identify when they are in danger or are in an uncomfortable situation. This means anyone in a situation such as this can approach a Carter Security door supervisor and ask for ‘Angela’. In doing so they’ll be able to help in a number of different ways. They could safely escort you off the premises and to a taxi – should that be your preference, or they could remove the individual causing the issue and bar them from reentering. They could also provide a back exit for you to leave discretely if that’s possible.

Whatever you end up doing this long weekend, we hope you have an enjoyable and safe time! Happy Easter!
